Our Angus Cattle
Our cattle are a product of passion, dedication, and a love for all things agriculture.
Bridwell Angus Ranch was founded by two twenty-somethings with a common goal; to find a way to make our dreams of owning a ranch and our own herd become reality. Put a fourth generation rancher with a passion for regenerative agriculture, a young forester with a passion for ranching, and a whole heck of a lot of determination and you’ll end up with some crazy ideas and a will to make it work!
While our registered herd is just getting started with foundation of about 15 purebred Angus cows, our goal is to expand to a large enough operation to support ourselves and provide high quality meat to Siskiyou County and surrounding areas. We also hope to offer our own registered seedstock bulls and heifers for sale in the near future.
Good grass-fed beef is created through holistically managed cattle and pasture; healthy plant communities make healthy cows which make high quality, nutritious meat.
Our management style is to work with Mother Nature instead of against her. Every decision made for our cattle and pastures keep in mind the importance of the ecological effect they have; not only for our business but the health of the environment we impact.
Our goal is to keep our cattle grazing where they are happiest year around. To continue to work towards this goal we calve in the early spring when the grass starts growing. This reduces the feed intake requirements of the mother cows just like nature intended. This also benefits the calves because they are born when their mother is eating the most nutritious forage of the year. The baby calves will nurse their mothers from spring into summer and by fall will be ready to grow off of the grass that they were raised on. At this point the cow has spent the year putting all her energy into raising her calf and now that her calf is self reliant she can focus on herself and put on weight for the coming winter.
Beef with Ecological Benefits
We are dedicated to improving the plant and soil health of the areas that our cattle roam. We avoid relying on Agrochemicals on our pasture land. We do utilize the natural functions of livestock to help us in our efforts. The cattle are kept in groups that are moved frequently to mimic the movement of historic large herds of ungulates. This form of Mob grazing promotes plant growth above and below the soil as well as biodiversity and microorganisms.
