The Bull Battery
A bull is only as good as the offspring he produces.
What makes a good bull? We have found this question to be much more complicated than you would think. A bull has an impact on your cowherd for generations; positive or negative. Good structure, good temperament, fertility, carcass quality, foraging ability, breeding instinct; these are just some of the things that we think are critical to a good herd bull. There is no perfect bull, but each of the sires we use bring something valuable to the table. Most importantly, we want our bulls to leave us with daughters that have the potential to be long-lived, hard working, fertile cows. We would love to talk to you about the unique traits each of our sires posses!
SAV Blood Type 1838
Registration #20157811
Sire: SAV Bloodline 9678
Dam: SAV Madame Pride 3256
Chosen to add frame and power, Blood Type has produced some nice heavy weaning offspring. His steers pushed the scales down at close to 800lbs at 205 days. He has crossed well on our more moderate sized cows. His first daughters are being bred this spring and exhibit excellent fertility. They are feminine fronted and deep middled. His pathfinder dam has over 30 daughters employed in the SAV herd. They are making some head-turning productive females!
Bridwell Harlan 02
Registration #19998281
Sire: Sitz Stellar 726D
Dam: Algoma Golden Queen B268
Named after Mallory’s grandfather, Harlan has earned the honor to have a ‘family’ name. He may not have the star studded pedigrees that our other bulls have, but he has more than proved his abilities. He is the first calf out of one of the first cows we purchased. Since birth he has had true herd-sire instincts. He herds his cows and snorts at them if they get too close to a neighbor bull across the fence. He is docile, good footed, fertile, and could probably stay fat on dirt and star thistle. We can trust him to take care of a group of heifers, get them bred, and then clean up some late cows after!
Clines 063 of U603 RT 24J
Registration #20167238
Sire: BT Right Time 24J
Dam: Limestone Donna U063
A true foundation female making gem. If you are looking for genetics with proven longevity and maternal function, this bull is worth a look. His dam is a direct daughter of KMK Donna J311, the foundation Donna donor for the Coleman herd in Montana. We were fortunate to purchase him as a 4 year old. He had quite the journey to get from Kansas to California, but he was happy to be out breeding heifers just a week after arrival. He will be used heavily in our AI program and as a walking herd sire.
